Interior design in West Palm Beach
Gava Studio Design is an interior design studio based in Stuart, serving West Palm Beach and the neighboring towns of Haverhill, Mangonia Park, Cloud Lake and Glen Ridge. Incorporated in 1894 and now the Palm Beach County seat, the city faces the Town of Palm Beach across the Lake Worth Lagoon. Its housing runs from 1920s Mediterranean Revival and Mission-style houses in El Cid, Spanish Colonial Revival homes in Flamingo Park and early craftsman bungalows in Grandview Heights to condominium towers on South Flagler Drive.
Many of the older neighborhoods are local historic districts, and downtown pairs the historic Clematis Street commercial district with CityPlace, the Related Companies' mixed-use district on Rosemary Avenue. We design renovations that respect a house's period, complete condominium interiors, and restaurants, shops and offices, and we coordinate with the architects and licensed contractors who handle permits and the city's historic review.
Neighborhoods and communities we serve in and around West Palm Beach:

Houses in the historic districts
West Palm Beach protects its older neighborhoods as local historic districts, among them El Cid, Flamingo Park, Grandview Heights, Old Northwood, Northwood Hills, Prospect/Southland Park, Vedado-Hillcrest and Mango Promenade. El Cid, along South Flagler Drive, grew in the 1920s land boom with Mediterranean Revival and Mission-style houses. Flamingo Park is known for Mission and Spanish Colonial Revival homes, and Grandview Heights, built from about 1910 to 1925, has an unusually strong collection of early craftsman bungalows.
The city's Historic Preservation Board and its staff review work that changes a building's exterior through a Certificate of Appropriateness, with minor items approved at staff level, and demolition needs the board's approval. Interior remodeling and paint colors are not reviewed. That leaves room for new kitchens, baths and lighting, and we design them to sit well with original floors, windows, arches and ceilings, coordinating any exterior change with the architect or contractor who files for review.
Condominiums on South Flagler Drive and downtown
South Flagler Drive lines up condominium towers facing the lagoon and Palm Beach, from The Bristol, a 25-story building at 1100 South Flagler Drive, to South Flagler House, a 105-residence building designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects. More residences sit in and around CityPlace. Condo work here runs on association rules covering drawing approval, contractor insurance, elevator bookings and working hours, and we prepare documents to meet them.
The towers look east over the water, so morning sun and glare shape window treatments and finishes, and open plans need furniture and lighting arranged around the view. Our project direction service schedules trades and deliveries with building management and keeps owners who are away informed with photos and video.
- Millwork and furniture sized for elevators and service corridors
- Window treatments for morning light off the lagoon
- Kitchen and bath plans within fixed plumbing stacks
Clematis Street, CityPlace and commercial interiors
Clematis Street was the city's early main street, and its core is a historic district of 1920s commercial buildings with Mediterranean Revival and Renaissance Revival facades. Storefront and facade changes there go through the same Certificate of Appropriateness review as houses do, while interior build-outs do not. Nearby, CityPlace, which opened in 2000 and was branded for a time as Rosemary Square and The Square, combines restaurants, shops, offices and residences.
Restaurants, retail, offices and medical suites here and across the city get the same sequence from us: a test-fit to support the lease decision, concept renderings for landlord approval, and finish, lighting and millwork documents for the licensed contractor. For a business that also needs an identity, our branding and digital design service can develop the name, signage and website in parallel.
Haverhill, Mangonia Park, Cloud Lake and Glen Ridge
Four small towns sit close to West Palm Beach, each its own municipality. Haverhill, incorporated in 1950, lies at the western edge of Palm Beach International Airport. Mangonia Park, founded in 1947 and named for the mango groves once farmed there, is home to a Tri-Rail station. Cloud Lake and Glen Ridge sit side by side near Southern Boulevard and I-95 and are tiny: Cloud Lake counted 134 residents in 2020, and Glen Ridge, a registered bird sanctuary of about 100 homes, counted 217.
Because each town has its own government, zoning and permitting questions start with that town rather than with the city. Whether the house sits under Glen Ridge's tree canopy or near the airport in Haverhill, the work follows the same path: a consultation at the house, a space plan and finish selections for a kitchen, bath or whole-house update, and project direction that coordinates the licensed contractor through permitting and construction.
Local rules and facts last checked September 2026. Confirm with your building department before you plan.
Does West Palm Beach's historic review cover interior changes in El Cid or Flamingo Park?
No. The city requires a Certificate of Appropriateness for work that changes a building's exterior appearance, and it does not review interior remodeling or paint colors. Exterior changes such as new windows, doors or additions, and any demolition, do go through review at staff level or before the Historic Preservation Board, so we coordinate them with the architect or contractor who files.
Is there a tax benefit for improving a historic house in West Palm Beach?
The city runs a historic ad valorem tax exemption program that can exempt improvements to historic properties from increases in city and county property taxes for up to ten years. Eligibility and the approval steps are set by the city's historic preservation staff, so it is worth confirming with them before construction begins.
Can you design a restaurant or shop on Clematis Street?
Yes. Our commercial interior design service covers restaurants, retail and offices, with test-fits, 3D renderings for landlord approval and documents for the build-out. Clematis Street's core is a local historic district, so storefront and other exterior changes may need a Certificate of Appropriateness, and we plan that step with the landlord and contractor from the start.
