Interior design in North Palm Beach
Gava Studio Design is an interior design studio based in Stuart serving North Palm Beach and its neighbors, Juno Beach and Lake Park. We design renovations for canal-front houses and Intracoastal condominiums, complete interiors for new residences, and offices, shops and restaurants along US-1, with consultations at the property, at showrooms and slab yards, or by video.
North Palm Beach grew out of 2,600 acres John D. MacArthur bought in 1954. Contractors Bob and Dick Ross dredged canals between US-1 and Prosperity Farms Road to give as many lots as possible a waterfront, and when the village incorporated in 1956 the National Association of Home Builders gave it its planned-community award for the year. Many early houses went to professionals working at Pratt & Whitney, which opened west of town in 1958. The village-owned country club course, first laid out in the late 1920s, reopened in 2019 after a renovation by Nicklaus Design.

Canal-front houses from the village's first years
Many of the village's original houses stand on lots cut from the dredged waterways. We usually plan these renovations around opening the early floor plan toward the pool and dock and rebuilding the kitchen and baths, within single-family rules that limit houses in the R-1 district to two stories and 30 feet.
Depending on the scope, exterior changes such as a facade alteration or new colors and materials can go through the village's site plan and appearance review, judged against an Appearance Plan that does not restrict architectural style but asks for harmony with neighboring buildings and keeps bright colors to accents. We prepare the drawings and the color and material selections for that review, and the licensed contractor pulls the permit.
- Kitchen and living areas opened toward the canal and pool
- Second-story additions planned within the two-story, 30-foot limit
- Exterior color and material selections prepared for appearance review
- Outdoor rooms at the dock planned with the interior
Old Port Cove and Intracoastal condominiums
Old Port Cove's condominium buildings and marina sit on the Intracoastal just south of PGA Boulevard, and many of its residences date from the 1970s and 1980s. Where a unit still has its original layout, we open the kitchen to the living areas and rebuild the baths within the building's fixed plumbing and structure, and we coordinate with the association on flooring, contractor hours and deliveries.
Buildings of that age are also working through the milestone inspections and reserve requirements of Florida's 2022 condominium safety law, so it is worth asking the board about scheduled building work before fixing a renovation timeline. For owners who spend part of the year elsewhere, our project direction service sends photo and video reports at each stage.
US-1 and Northlake Boulevard businesses
A 2016 citizens' master plan imagines US-1 through North Palm Beach as a walkable, mixed-use street, and the village's C-MU zoning district now shapes redevelopment along it, with frontage and sign standards reviewed by the Planning, Zoning and Adjustment Board. The same board reviews site plans and signs on Northlake Boulevard. For businesses moving into new or renovated space on either road, we design the interior, produce renderings for landlords and lenders, and develop signage and brand identity that suit the village's appearance standards, which ask for restrained, harmonious color. Inside, we plan layouts, finishes and lighting around how the business runs, from a medical waiting room to a restaurant dining room, and coordinate the build-out with the licensed contractor who permits it.
Juno Beach and Lake Park
Juno Beach incorporated in 1953, added condominiums from the 1960s on, and named its residential streets in 1958 for planets and Roman gods and goddesses. Its beach is one of the densest sea turtle nesting areas in the world, and the town requires a sea turtle lighting permit, along with the building permit, for new or replacement glass doors and windows in its Sea Turtle Protection Zone near the beach. Its appearance review favors an Old Florida vernacular, from Key West cracker and Mediterranean to early and mid-century modern.
Lake Park began in 1923 as Kelsey City, planned by John Nolen and the Olmsted Brothers, and took its current name in 1939. Its two-story Mediterranean Revival town hall on Park Avenue, dedicated in 1928, is on the National Register of Historic Places. For houses on the town's early streets, we plan kitchen, bath and lighting updates that keep whatever original detail survives.
Local rules and facts last checked September 2026. Confirm with your building department before you plan.
Do you work in Old Port Cove and other Intracoastal condominiums?
Yes. We redesign residences within the building's fixed structure and plumbing, prepare the drawings associations request, and schedule contractors and deliveries around building rules. Before setting a timeline, ask the board whether milestone inspection or reserve work under Florida's 2022 condominium law is planned, since it can affect access and scheduling.
What should I know before replacing windows in Juno Beach?
If the property is inside Juno Beach's Sea Turtle Protection Zone, new or replacement windows and glass doors need a town sea turtle lighting permit in addition to the building permit. Your licensed contractor files both, and we coordinate glass, tint and window treatments with the interior design.
Does North Palm Beach review exterior colors and materials?
Depending on the project, yes. The village's site plan and appearance review covers paint colors and materials, facade changes, fencing, signs and other exterior architectural features, judged against its Appearance Plan. We prepare the drawings and the color and material selections, and the village's Community Development Department can confirm whether your scope needs review.
